How To Buy Your First Stroller For Baby

When you have to make the decision to buy a stroller for baby, it’s a mind blowing decision to make. Gone are

the days when it was simply a choice of perhaps two, now there are hundreds around. So how do you choose? I expect you, like me, will consider safety as your primary concern followed closely by comfort.

Baby strollers need to lock automatically when opened and should be easy to put up and down, preferably this should be a one-handed operation as you will normally be holding baby at the time. Always check the brakes; these should perhaps be easier to put on than to take off. A good accessory as a backup for the brakes (or you forgetting to put them on!) is a wrist-strap. This attaches you to the stroller and a couple of good uses for this including if you fall, the stroller won’t run away from you should you let go of it.

If you have a car, how easy is it to get your chosen stroller in and out. If you have a smaller car, there is no point buying a stroller that you will have difficulty fitting in as you’ll have a lot more luggage with baby! If you are going to be lifting the stroller frequently, consider the construction material and the weight.  You need to consider some of the little things like storage. You probably know that storage is really useful for shopping etc., and pockets and trays are pretty handy. A tray for baby for their drink and perhaps stick-on toys will help keep your young one amused.

One concern that a lot of new mothers tend to forget is the handle-bar height. If you forget this one, you could end up with a bad back so particularly if you are above or below an average height that up make sure the handle-bar height is adjustable.

Next, what type of stroller do you want? Just a basic stroller as you may not use it much, a jogging stroller so you can get fit with baby, an all terrain model if you tend go hiking or similar, 3 wheels or 4, do you want to buy a complete travel system to begin with or a stroller that has a compatible range of say car seats that you can add to should one part become damaged. Do you have a favourite brand or want a status symbol stroller that everyone will know how much you paid for it!!

You may have guessed by this site that we prefer Phil and Teds Stroller, but there is a lot to consider before you buy and a lot of money to pay out, so think carefully, do your research and choose wisely.
